In her new book, Gail Dines warns people about the twisted view of sex that pornography is shaping in today’s society. She first realized the harms of pornography when a friend invited her to a documentary about pornography. Immediately after viewing the documentary Dines called her academic adviser and switched her dissertation topic to the impact pornography is having on society’s view of sex. Dines has extensively studied pornography and says that the images depicted are increassingly violent and brutal towards women. She urges that she is not “anti-sex,” she is anti-porn. Porn takes the relational aspect out of sex and injects violence against women in its place.
