Lakeland Pastor's Porn-Free Campaign Gains National Attention (NEWS)

Dennis, senior pastor at Lakeland’s First Baptist Church at the Mall, uses the cute toy to illustrate what he considers an ugly issue: the failure of churches to admit that pornography is a problem for many of their men.

“Pornography is the new pink elephant in the church,” Dennis said. “It’s obvious, but it’s too awkward to deal with. It’s there, but it’s too embarrassing. It’s too sensitive.”

Dennis is determined to stampede — as sensitively as possible — through that awkwardness. He raised the issue of pornography during church services three years ago, and he created material to help men combat the temptation to view titillating images. From that initiative in his own church, Dennis founded a program called One Million Men Porn Free that is on the verge of a national campaign with support from the Southern Baptist Convention…
